Slaid Cleaves to perform at Eden's Green Apple
The Green Apple Art Center and Guild in Eden, Texas has announced its inaugural music event will take place on Saturday May 25th, doors opening at 7:30. "An Evening With Slaid Cleaves" will kick off a series of concerts featuring some of the finest singers and songwriters in the country, and all in Eden's very own musical venue. The former Eden Locker Plant has been transformed into a comfortable and intimate music venue that will seat approximately 130. It will have an outdoor patio feel to it, with open windows and doorways, all covered by a 90% sun blocking awning. The Guild plans to have approximately one weekend show per month spring through fall, focusing on great songwriting talent.
Slaid Cleaves certainly falls into the great songwriter category. The New York Times has lauded him as "one of the finest songwriters from Texas" and his song "Broke Down" won for him an Austin Music Awards song of the year. His lyrics are pure poetry, and his hauntingly beautiful singing voice completes the package. Originally from Maine, he has lived in the Austin area for over twenty years and gained a loyal following on both a local and national scale. He is known for connecting to audiences and has developed a reputation for sincere and entertaining shows featuring his intimate songs presented with a variety of top-notch instrumental accompanists. South Texas Music Walk of Fame guitarist Michael O'Conner will accompany Slaid for the evening in Eden.
Writer Stephen King, one of Slaid's biggest fans, said this in the linear notes of Slaid's critically acclaimed album "Everything You Love Will Be Taken Away": "I'm glad I found Slaid Cleaves, because my life would have been poorer without him. You'll feel the same, I think, when you listen to this beautifully crafted album. Listen, go to one of Slaid's shows, take a friend, and pass on the news: not all the good guys wear hats.
Take his advice. Come to the show. Bring a friend. Bring your spouse. Bring your favorite beverage. But most of all bring a warm smile and a great Eden welcome to the first of many artists coming to our home. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 day of show. But hurry, this show is expected to sell out, and there will be no standing room tickets sold.
